Final Project Manifesto

For my final project, I will be designing a game concept with a demographic of children aged 3+ up to young teenagers. To present this design concept, I will be involving screen grabs and gifs to show how the game works. As my essay was based on Minecraft, a game that puts the audience into the role of the designer to overcome challenges, I felt it would be a strong system to also base my game upon. My game will follow a non linear narrative with multiple possibilities to complete each level. I am creating a simple, yet educational game through how I want it to target the lateral thinking process to build and extend on peoples ability to problem solve. By aiming this game at children, I believe it can effect their ability to think outside the box for later on in life as it is harder to adapt to a way of thinking as we get older. The game will be fun, however challenging to force children into having to think outside the box to overcome more difficult game levels.
As shown in my research, I have studied the ‘Talking Tiles’ and these are what I am going to be taking inspiration from and developing into my own idea to create a game concept. To play the game, there will be a 12” display along with 8 touch screen tiles that are used to interact with the larger display in order to complete each level.
How it works

The user will have in front of them the large 12” interactive display along with 8 touch screen interactive tiles. Each interactive tile will contain a different shape which the user can touch to make appear on the screen of the large touch screen display. The user can then adjust the shape to how they want along with other shapes in order to complete the level. For each level the shapes shown on the 8 tiles change to allow for the user to complete each particular level. The aim of the game is to get the red ball to the red flag. Once the user has took the role of the designer and setup their shapes on the large screen, they are to then shake the display once to start the red ball from moving. The red ball will always move forward unless it comes up to a vertical wall which then forces the user to repeat the level. For each level, there is a star based points system ranging from 1-3 stars per level. The more creative the user is, the more stars they earn for each level. This encourages the audience to involve lateral thinking in order to earn more stars.
